Statement scale

Lighting is a necessity (especially with our changeable British weather) - so why not make it a feature? This trend is all about oversized, unexpected scale in lighting; from futuristic sputnik ceiling lights to chunky table lamps, these are designed to make a statement. Keep any lampshades, visible lightbulbs or co-ordinating accessories minimal - it’s all about the scale, here.

Terrazzo touches

Last year we saw a lot of marble details in lighting - and this year, it’s all about its more colourful cousin, terrazzo. Terrazzo is traditionally made by combining a cement base (sand, water, and cement) with a mixture of ground minerals - like marble, granite, and quartz - and can be applied to almost any surface, vertical or horizontal. Artisans have expanded this base technique to use many different materials, meaning there are more colours and styles of terrazzo available than ever before, which might be what’s behind the resurgence of the trend. Terrazzo can be applied to so many areas in your home - from flooring and accessories to furniture and lighting!

Opt for lamps with terrazzo bases to create a mediterranean-inspired, luxury vibe in neutral living, dining and bedroom spaces. For a bolder look, explore terrazzo-topped side and coffee tables - our monochrome Alcina tables make a stylish statement in contemporary spaces.

Gorgeous golds

One of our most versatile lighting trends on this list is gold lighting - working seamlessly across luxury, industrial, modern and rustic decor styles to name a few! This is a timeless trend within lighting, but has been brought into 2023 with clever updates like unusual gold elements within statement lamps, or even entirely gold glass shades. One of the best elements of this lighting trend is that it works equally well as softer accents, or a show stopping centrepiece. Adding lamps or lighting with gold detailing works in almost every decor style, and can help add a warm glow to a room that’s difficult to replicate with colour alone. But don’t be afraid to go bold with full-on gold - our Ziva lighting range can take centre stage in your space, with abstract gold blown glass that elevates your lamps to a true art piece.

Fabulous feathers

If we’re talking luxury lighting trends for 2023, this is it. These fabulous feathered lampshades are taking the industry by storm - and we can see why! Not only does this feature fluff make the perfect practical diffuser for soft, cosy light, but the statement texture easily adds a luxury warmth to any space. Want to really customise this look? Choose colour-changing smart bulbs and match the light colour to your mood - pinks and purples are a fun twist that will really turn heads.

Rustic rattan

A lighting trend that’s been on the rise for the last few years, featured heavily in mid-century and biophilic interior styling, and definitely isn’t going anywhere - is rattan lampshades and lamps. The warm wood tones of this material, combined with the tactile effect of the woven technique, acts as a natural diffuser for lightbulbs, making it an ideal trend for lighting. A style rooted in the 60s and 70s, it’s brought up to date with a more geometric woven pattern, and works equally well across table lamps, floor lamps, and ceiling pendant lights. Looking for something more modern? Grey-toned rattan is becoming more popular - this more contemporary twist on the classic rustic look works well with cooler toned spaces.

Angular minimalism

Stripped back, monochrome and futuristic - this sleek statement trend will certainly turn heads in your home. Made up of straight lines, simple shapes and angular elements, this trend is ideal for ultra-modern spaces, and adds a grown-up (but still fun) vibe to games rooms, home offices and living spaces.

Blown glass

Blown glass is a classic material for lighting, but the glass we’re seeing in 2023 is a little different than the usual - large, bulbous pendants, statement see-through lamp bases, and organic, abstract shapes are all making waves in this category. This trend creates a gorgeous glow like no other, and with an increasing number of colours to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice for your home.

Modern industrial

You might be thinking, “This isn’t a new trend?” And yes - you’d be right! But we thought it was worth including here, as the industrial lighting trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Often mixing brass and black iron with wooden details, this style doesn’t hide the electrical components away - rather, it’s more likely to make a feature of bulbs and bases as part of the design. This trend works across the style spectrum, and looks equally good in modern, minimal homes or cosy, traditional spaces. Maybe that’s why it’s so popular?
